I really, really loved the first book in this series, so I was super excited to dive into this next book! I had so many expectations for what I thought was going to happen in this book. Let’s just say it was not what I was expecting.

At the end of The Selection, I thought we had figured out this whole love triangle that was going on. So I was super disappointed to get into this book to find out it turned into a love octagon. LOL I may be overreacting a tiny bit, but that’s how it felt! I was seriously getting aggravated with BOTH American and Prince Maxon

It seemed like Prince Maxon was playing a ton of games with America throughout the book. I was actually so invested that I became angry and jealous FOR America. I really hope we can seriously get this figured out in the next book since it’s called The One.

The weird thing about this book is that I feel absolutely no attraction to Prince Maxon, like AT ALL. I think that’s why I’m pulling for America to win him over. But I DID NOT like what he was doing at all! Once he explains himself though, I kind of understand.

The most aggravating part of this book was the constant push and pull that America and Prince Maxon were doing. The constant back and forth of emotions was a bit too much. I may be biased because I like when people set their minds to who they want and go for it with no hesitation!

This book also completely ripped my heart to shreds! When Marley’s secret is finally revealed I was a complete mess; screaming at the book and all. The only saving grace was that America tried to stand up for Marley, which speaks volumes to the type of character she is. I was highly disappointed by Prince Maxon in the situation because I expected so much more of him and couldn’t understand how he would like something like that happen. Once Prince Maxon gets his chance to explain, he wins me back over though.

So many things were brought to light in this book. Things that readers needed for some things to be cleared up. It was sad to read and now I’m wondering what America is going to do about the King– for his dislike of her and the things he does behind closed doors.

I just had a few other things I wanted to mention here. I really dislike America’s brother Kota. He seems like all he cares about it climbing the ladder, no matter who’s head he needs to step on to get there. I’m also getting a little tired of the attacks on the palace. Can we just do something about this already? I was also extremely frustrated with America when she decided to THROW EVERYTHING AWAY and just go home.

Ugh, I hope everyone get’s there lives together in this next book. But none of these things made me enjoy the book any less. I devoured this book, just like I did the other one. I also have The One on my March TBR, so I’ll be getting to that one really soon!

A scene from the book that I really enjoyed:

“‘What’s it like to be in love?’ May asked. … Lucy’s smile was sad. ‘It’s the most wonderful and terrible thing that can ever happen to you’, she said simply. ‘You know that you’ve found someone amazing, and you want to hold on to it forever; and every second after you have it, you fear the moment you might lose it’. I sighed softly. She was absolutely right. Love is a beautiful fear” (page 61).

The next book in the series is The One

  1. Have you read The Siren? Because that is my favorite one by her. I was driven crazy by America and Maxon and all she expected from him. When you get to The Heir, let me know what you think of the MC. I’m dying for you to read that one as she irritated me even more! 😂
